In December 1894, actress Sarah
Bernhardt commissioned Alphonse Mucha to quickly create a poster for
her new play. Mucha finished the job in a completely new style of
art—Art Nouveau.
Mucha an accomplished artist and
designer also created interiors and designed jewelry, carpets and
fabrics. Alphonse Mucha (1860), a Moravian artist who trained
in Paris, is said to epitomize Art Nouveau.
